CHOOSE FREEDOM!!!

There’s plenty of federal holidays for Americans to celebrate.  On July 4th, there’s independence from King George’s England.  On the first Monday in September, a holiday was dedicated to the “social and economic achievements of American workers.”  Other days throughout the year celebrate autumn harvest, soldiers who died in the civil war and even a person who sailed to this continent nearly three centuries before the country was “founded.”
When there’s no federally-sanctioned holiday to call upon, protesters and activists across the political spectrum often pick “important” dates to schedule events to bring attention to their cause.  We’ve seen protests on Tax Day, Independence Day, May Day, Earth Day, and more.  And, in the past few weeks we saw great importance placed on days that doesn’t even have a letter in their name, 8/28 and 9/12.
But nowhere to be found on these great lists of “federal holidays” or “protest days” is a celebration of the document that defined the principles of liberty that this country was supposedly founded upon – the Constitution.

LIMITING POWER
The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787, and every year that date passes by with hardly a sound.  Sure, now that it’s considered a day of “federal observance” you’ll find government schools around the country including it in their lesson plans.  But these discussions generally focus on “Constitution Trivia” instead of what’s really important. While it may be good to educate our young on how many years a Senator serves, or how Supreme Court justices are appointed, it’s not enough.  Seriously lacking in the public discourse is the actual purpose of the Constitution – its underlying principles.
When the Constitution was being considered for ratification, there was strong opposition from famous American figures that included George Mason and Patrick Henry. One major reason for this was a fear of too much power.  The founding generation spent their lives toiling under a tyranny – a government without limits.  But, when the Constitution was written, it was done to codify in law that the powers of government would be limited to those which had been delegated to it – and nothing more.
The entire system was created under the principle of popular sovereignty – that ‘We the People of the Several States’ created the government, and all powers not delegated to it, were retained. But that’s not something you’re likely to hear from politicians in Washington DC, political pundits, schools, or just about anywhere else.  It’s generally not in their interest, either.
If politicians and their backers were promoting such crazy ideas as “originalism” and “limited government” they’d never be able to convince you that they have the power to tell you what kind of health care plan you’ll be getting, how big your toilet can be, what kind of plants you’re allowed to grow, where you’re allowed to exercise your “right” to free speech, whom you can buy and sell from, and even when you must send your children to die for them.
MORE OF THE SAME
Throughout history, even kings and queens have often failed to survive such acts of hubris; but, in “free” America, the major parties that produce all the presidents continue to receive approval through tens ofmillions of votes.  And where has that gotten people?
Well, let’s take a look at some major issues.
  • If you were opposed to war in the Bush administration, you’ve still got the same wars and threats of wars under Obama.
  • If you were opposed to national health care under Clinton, you got a massive expansion of government health care under George Bush, which laid the groundwork for an even bigger expansion under Obama.
  • If you didn’t like the federal government passing the Patriot Act without even reading it, you’re still getting the same (or worse) failure to read legislation today.
  • On the other hand, if you liked the Bush bailouts, you’ve gotta love the ones that Obama has given you!
No matter what side of the political aisle you sit on, the federal government is not your friend.  It’s not a friend to the Constitution, and it’s certainly no friend to your liberty.  For years and years…and years, people have yelled “vote the bums out!”  “Call Congress now!”  “March on DC!”  But, in the long run, little to none of this actually works.
If you oppose this national health care plan, they’ll give you that one.  If you oppose one war, you’ll get another one. If you oppose today’s bailout, they’ll find a different one tomorrow.  Decade in and decade out, the government keeps growing, and your liberty keeps shrinking.  And it doesn’t matter if the person in charge is named Obama, or Bush, or Reagan, or Clinton.
The bottom line?  Looking to the federal government – whether it’s though elections, or protests, or lawsuits, or rallies – is a failed strategy.   So how about trying something new?
A DIFFERENT PATH: NULLIFICATION
People around the country are recognizing that there is a different path, and one that has a chance of working on a big scale, too. Already nearly a dozen states have passed 10th amendment resolutionsreaffirming the proper role of government under the Constitution. 25 states have stopped the real id act dead in its tracks in most of the country. 8 states have passed firearms freedom acts – to nullify some federal gun laws and regulations in their state. 5 states have already passed laws to nullify federal health care mandates – with more on the way. And, fourteen states now have medical marijuana laws in direct opposition to federal laws.
In Jeffersonian-speak, this all falls under the banner of “nullification.”  When a state ‘nullifies’ a federal law, it is proclaiming that the law in question is void and inoperative, or ‘non-effective,’ within the boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a law as far as that state is concerned.
While some in government and the media would like to paint this essential tool for resisting federal tyranny as solely aligned with the South in the War Between the States – and nothing more, they’re missing some essential history.  It’s been used in efforts to advance free speech, help runaway slaves, resist high taxes and more.
And recently, the Bush-Era Real ID Act is now virtually dead in the water, not due to elections or rallies, or calls to Congress – but instead, due to state-level resistance. In the past three-plus years, approximately two dozen states simply refused to implement the law.  The result?  The law is still on the books in Congress. It’s never been overturned by a federal court. But yet – in most of the country – it’s virtually null and void.
Even better, this is no single-issue movement.  Legislators in over 20 states are considering legislation to nullify some federal gun laws, and another 20 are looking at ways to nullify national health care.  15 states are weighing legislation or ballot initiatives that could turn them into medical marijuana states by next year, and activists in over a dozen states have been pushing for legislation that would require their governors to bring national guard troops home from Iraq and elsewhere. On top of it, a national tour has been launchedin support of these efforts – something that may have been impossible just a few years ago
LIBERTY BEGINS WITH YOU
Issue by issue, law by law, the best way to change the federal government is by refusing to comply with it on a state and individual level. Withdrawing our consent for unconstitutional “laws,” acts, regulations….and mandates…has a much better effect than begging or demanding that DC limit its own power.
Over the years, wise men and women warned us that the Constitution would never enforce itself.  I believe it’s time for people to recognize this as fact, and bring that enforcement closer to home.
Whether you’re on the left, or on the right, or even somewhere in the middle, the path to freedom, the path to your political goals lies not in Washington D.C.  Instead, it lies in Madison, and Jefferson (City)…and other state capitols around the country.
So this Constitution Day take a new pledge. Ignore and nullify the federal government.  When it refuses to follow the Constitution year in and year out, it becomes as worthless as it is dangerous.

You will not see this heart-stopping photo on the front page of the NY Times, nor on the lead story of the major news networks. The protestors at Montebello High School took the American flag off the school's flag pole and hung it upside down while putting up the Mexican flag over it.  (*See pictures below*)
 







 

 I predict this stunt will be the nail in the coffin of any guest-worker/ amnesty plan on the table in Washington ... The image of the American flag subsumed to another and turned upside down on American soil is already spreading on Internet forums and via e-mail.

Pass this along to every American citizen in your address books and to every representative in the state and federal government.. If you choose to remain uninvolved, do not be amazed when
  you no longer have a nation to call your own nor anything you have worked for left since it will be 'redistributed' to the activists while you are so peacefully staying out of the 'fray'. Check history, it is full of nations/empires that disappeared when its citizens no longer held their core beliefs and values. One person CAN make a difference....

The battle for our secure borders and immigration laws that actually mean something, however, hasn't even begun.

WE ARE THE LAST TO STAND...

My friends, if we continue on this path that we are on today we are indeed passing the threshold from light to darkness.  We have, as a society, never had to experience what citizens of third world countries do.  That is why so many of them have come here and most of them legally.  They themselves see what is happening and right now they are in fear of what is coming.  For if we fall there is no place left. Where will they go? Where will we go? 


It is time to stand and to wake up.  Time to see what is happening to our way of life and to the dreams of our forefathers, to the dreams that we have for our children. We are it folks!


WE ARE THE LAST STAND!!! 


If we fail in November to do what is necessary there is but one option left and that will be the only option that will be allowed as any rights that we have remaining will be taken away within a short time.


Heed my words, my friends. Life is about to change and not for the better if we continue to take things for granted.

This is America not Mexico so in my opinion ALL flags other than the State and US Flag should be outlawed!!!

You're breaking up USA... According to Russia

Endtime prophecy is not the province of the religiously excitable alone. Even the die-hard materialists of the Russian intelligence service FSB (formerly the KGB) dabble in apocalyptic musings – although the scope of this particular prediction is not global, but limited to the imminent demise of that old-and-new archenemy, the United States.
Igor Panarin has been predicting the “moral and economic collapse” of the US for about a decade now; he set the Endtime for the American Empire at the year 2010, and the recent arrival of the credit crunch lends some credence to his outlandish forecast - at least as far as the Russian (state) media is concerned. Panarin, formerly a KGB analyst and now an academic, gets about two interview requests a day.

The break-up predicted by Panarin would be the result of mass immigration, economic decline and moral degradation, all of which would trigger a second American civil war, and the collapse of the dollar. This would then lead to the break-up of the United States, by mid-2010, into half a dozen regional sub-entities. These would be dominated or absorbed outright by foreign powers.

  • Alaska would revert to Russia, and Hawaii would become Chinese or Japanese.
  • The West Coast (the three Pacific states, joined with Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona in a Californian Republic), would fall to China or at least be under Chinese influence.
  • Texas Republic, which would also include New Mexico, Oklahoma and all the other traditionally southern states (except the Carolinas, the Virginias, Kentucky and Tennessee), would similarly be either directly or indirectly under the sway of Mexico.
  • The aforementioned southern exceptions would join the northeastern states in forming a bloc that might join the European Union.
  • The rest – all midwestern and western states – would be at Canada’s mercy. 
Imagine Chinese overlordship of Utah – another Tibet waiting to happen -, the Maple Leaf flag flying at the Gateway Arch and the European Union and Mexico meeting just south of there, on the Mississippi. As far-fetched as that may sound, Mr Panarin is no fringe looney. He heads the Russian Foreign Ministry’s academy for future diplomats (and Russia will need quite a few more of those, if his prediction comes true). Mr Panarin also is one of  the talking heads on (Russian state) tv whenever US-Russian relations are at issue.
The popularity of his end-of-America views mirrors the Kremlin’s semi-official anti-Americanism, and it is all the more popular for the pithy sympathy he wraps up his predicitions in: Panarin claims his disintegration scenario has about 50% chance of happening, and if it did, it would not be the best outcome – for Russia, that is. Even though the Russians would again cross the Bering Strait to retake possession of Alyaska, the disintegration of Russia’s main trading partner would spell economic trouble for the resurgent world power.
One can’t help but feel that Mr Panarin’s view is less a realistic scenario based on cold, hard facts (as he claims), and more a kind of payback for America’s and the West’s gleeful spectatorship of the Soviet Union’s collapse. Mr Panarin explicitly refers to political scientist Emmanuel Todd, who in 1976 predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union. “People laughed at him”, Mr Panarin is quoted as saying by this article in the Wall Street Journal, implying that he can relate to the scorn felt by Mr Todd at the time, and is anticipating a similar vindication.
As with religious eschatologists (at least those careless enough to posit a near and definite date for the world’s end), the only way definitely to disprove Mr Panarin’s reverse Schadenfreude is to wait for his prediction to outlive itself. So let’s see exactly what Mr Obama remains president of, if anything, come August 2010…

Get out and get involved and get to know...


Ok folks, we’ve had a great few months of high profile events and lots of tea parties at state capitols (rah rah), and groups organizing groups, and folks trying to play king of the mountain.
Well – now it is time for the rubber to meet the road, the boots on the ground to step into action as it were; yes time for real people to do the real work that gets the best candidates elected and works to restore the republic.
So, time to talk to your neighbors and engage with people you can look in the eye and relate to.  There are many ways to do this, but I am going to do a series of stories here on what I am doing and how I am doing it and some personal stories about what comes out of doing so.  I am hoping that you will find a way to replicate it in your area to the extent your time and energy permits.
I am the Republican Party Precinct Chairman in my neighborhood and  I have access to walk lists for it.  Some people only go door to door for Republicans in primary season, but I use it as an opportunity to meet all my neighbors!  I want to reach out to all the folks and find out which ones are conservative, independent, constitutional, liberty lovers and invite them to be a part of the GOP.
Now if you are saying “whoa there”, I am not so happy with the R’s right now, you are not alone!  But that might be because you have not been faithfully showing up and working to make the R’s be who they say they are.  I have and will continue to do so and progress is being made, even if slowly.  You know it is all about who shows up and knows the rules and has the most people there!
So let’s do this together and share stories about how it goes!  Here’s what you need to do:
1)  Call your GOP headquarters and ask who your precinct chair is. Contact that chair and offer to help walk the neighborhood. If they don’t have a precinct chair, then volunteer and ask for a walk list.
2)  Visit with your favorite candidates in the area and ask them for their best door to door flyer and tell them the quantity you can pass out door to door for them.
3)  Get a supply of voter registration cards to have with you and give out as you deem appropriate.  Clearly our goal is not to register Democrats – duh!
4)  Have some personal cards printed with your contact information on it that you wish to share with your neighbors.
5)  Have a clipboard for the walk lists and some lined paper to take notes.  Find out what your neighbors need and are concerned about.  Make notes if you promise to get back to them and be sure you do.  Update incorrect information on the walk lists.  Make notes of prayer requests that are sharable and needs that are sharable and look for ways to solve problems as you go.
6)  Determine when would be the best time of day to do this in your neighborhood and what fits with your schedule and do a few houses a day until you complete the job.  Look for others who want to help and teach them how to do what you are doing.  Find out what blocks they want to walk and make notes and check back with them to see if it has been done!
Based on trends in recent elections, the Democratic Party seems to have the “localism” and shoe leather necessities figured out. Time to catch up!

WHEN A GOVERNMENT BECOMES THE COUNTRY

Ever since I was a child I remember one thing the most that my parents and grandparents taught me. The love of country, family and respect of others is what makes this country as great as it is, or I should say as great as it once was.

I remember, I was about 10 I think, sitting at a fourth of July parade in the town we lived in.  I was sitting on my fathers shoulders and in awe at the crowd and the cheering that came from them. As each band came by it was the same until the Military came by holding the United States Flag along with our State flag and then each flag for the branch's of service.  The crowd erupted and I had to cover my ears.  I looked down and saw my dad wipe a tear from his face. That stuck with me for years and I always remembered that.

A few years later when I was in high-school one of my favorite classes along with journalism was Government. We were given an assignment on writing on what being an American meant to us. I figured that the best place to start was with the memory of that day on the fourth of July.

I asked my dad about it and he was of course shocked that I saw that, let alone remembered it.  I asked him why the crowd was like that, I already knew the answer, and why he cried. I did not have an answer to that...yet.

As well as I can, I will try to recall what he said next verbatim. "Son", he said, "Lots of men women and children have died for this country. This country was built with the blood, sweat and tears of its people and the suffering has been incredible."

He continued, "When I grew up it was not too many decades after the Civil War. My grandfather fought for the South and lost his left leg fighting for what he believed in at the time be it right or wrong. He never held a grudge to the North and some of the best friends he had before he died were from the North. He told me that one thing that both sides had in common was their belief in God and country and in the principles that this country were founded upon."

"Before he died he told me that no matter what that the founders of this country had it right.  That its people make this country what it is and do so with limited Government.  He said that he realized over the years that the Government caused the Civil war and not necessarily its people.  They drew a line in the sand and then you had to choose which side to be on.  Then the Governments on both sides made it worse with the propaganda.  In the end he said that we all have lost."

"I realized that day that I love my country as much as I love my family and myself, when he died. I would do anything within my ability do defend her and the principles on which she was built.  I had the opportunity when WWII erupted.  I served in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  During my time overseas I saw things that no man should ever have to see. Those are stories I will share with you some other time."

"Towards the end of the war I was assigned to a German POW camp.While I was there I was befriended by a German Soldier.  Over the course of a few months we became close enough that we shared our stories about how we ended up where we were at. After many discussions we both realized that we both were fighting for the same thing.  Our Governments and what they were being told they stood for.  We were both right depending whose eyes you were looking out of. In the end we were no different."

"So to the reason that I cried that day.  The reason that I cried is of course for the love of country but I cried and still do mostly due to the realization that as I have seen the years go buy and another death occurs in the name of the USA or any country is that in the end we the people are the country.  Not our Government.  That is why our founding fathers did everything they could to ensure that the Government had limited control. I cried because I have seen the people we have elected turn this Nation into something it is not meant to be and it just continues to get worse each decade. I cry because I know that one day, this country will be lost if it continues if we let our country be its Government.  A Nation is its people and not its Government."

After my dad finished I was emotional myself.  I realized then and even more so now that he was right. Our country has become a Government and not its people.  That is why our founding fathers said, "we the people, in order to form a more perfect union..."

I believe when they pinned these words they had themselves and the people in mind and the union was meant to be between its people and the Government.

Today we our know globally by our Governments actions and the few men and women that are visible within its offices. We are not know by us, the people.

Today I fear that with our recent election of Mr. Obama we have sealed our fate and that the only way to undo what is happening is by revolution.  I do not mean force unless it is a last resort.  What I do mean is to gather together and have our voices heard across the world that we will not succumb to these changes.  We will not allow our country to be lead to the path of Socialism. We will not allow this country to be know for its Government and demand that it be know once again for its people.

WHY IS AMERICA CALL AMERICA...LESSON IN HISTORY

It is an irony of history that the name "America" did not come from Christopher Columbus. That distinction belongs to a German writer of geography.

In a further twist of events, America was named after Amerigo Vespucci, a 15th century Florentine merchant who owned a business in Seville, Spain, furnishing supplies for ships, preparing them for mercantile expeditions. 



How do we explain what seems to mock the reality of history?

Stirred by the achievements of Columbus and envious of the reputation his discoveries brought, Vespucci endeavored to cultivate Columbus' friendship and trust.

Seven years after Columbus' first voyage and while Columbus was still alive, Vespucci accompanied an expedition that consisted of four ships. They sailed past the eastern coast of South America, and visited Trinidad, which Columbus had named the preceding year. On his return to Europe Vespucci wrote letters with glowing descriptions of the newly discovered countries. He called the lands he had visited a "New World."

Some years later Vespucci's letters were published and read by Martin Waldseemuller, a noted geographer, and Mathias Ringmann, a schoolmaster. Recently arrived from Germany to the province of Lorraine, they were attracted to the town of Saint-Die because of a newly established print shop. Both men were engaged in working on a reproduction of Ptolemy's treatise on geography, to which they were adding a preface.

After reading the account of Vespucci's travels in "Quatre Navigations d' Americ Vespuce," they decided to incorporate Vespucci's voyage into the treatise. Ringmann, acting as editor, wrote in his introduction:

"There is a fourth quarter of the world which Amerigo Vespucci has discovered and which for this reason we can call 'America' or the land of Americo."

Apparently ignorant of the discoveries and achievements made by Columbus fifteen years earlier, Ringmann continued:

"We do not see why the name of the man of genius, Amerigo, who has discovered them, should not be given to these lands, as Europe and Asia have adopted the names of women."

Their work was published on April 25, 1507 under the title "Cosmographiae Introductio." It marked the first time the word AMERICA appeared in print.

HONORABLE MAN IS HE!!!

Our America, Our Nation: It’s Time once again!!!


Our Nation, our families our lives stand at an abyss. We are now looking into darkness that we never thought we would have to look into.  None the less it is there and it is moving across our Nation at a frightening rate.

Throughout history, humanity has had one pure desire.  Freedom!!! As humans and as citizens of the United States of  America we desire to be free; to be free from oppression, to be free from tyranny, to be free to make our own choice and the desire to be listened to and to belong together as one people and as one Nation.

In the United States we have fought two great wars on our soil to acquire and sustain those rights and to solidify those rights in the Declaration of  Independence, the Bill of Rights and in the United States Constitution. 

Our forefathers with the opening words of our Constitution identified these rights by stating, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

With the Declaration of Independence, during a time of Government tyranny and total control, they deemed it necessary to dissolve all political bands with the current government because all efforts had failed.

Today we as a Nation find our selves in the same situation.  We have a government that was once the most respected and feared that has become all to encompassing and in the course of less than two years has set this Nation and its people on a path to Socialism and away from the founding desires of our forefathers and of the men that have died for the rights that we are slowly allowing to fade into the darkness of complacency.

The truths of the Declaration of Independence are just as true today as they were when they were first put to quill.

We are still created equal and still have unalienable rights which still include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We fought to institute our Government to maintain and promote these rights.  This government is not the same that was instituted and has indeed become destructive to these ends and now as is our right we must enforce our right once again.  If we continue to be ignored and we continue to allow this to continue our children and our children’s children will curse us, their forefathers.

We must now declare our causes which impel us today to request that we be heard once again or separate. We have the right to alter or to abolish and to institute a new Government and bring us back to what we once had.

What is the Military-Industrial Complex?


The Military-Industrial Complex is a phrase used to signify a comfortable relationship between parties that are charged to manage wars (the military, the presidential administration and congress) and companies that produce weapons and equipment for war (industry). To put it simply, the Military-Industrial Complex is described as an all-too friendly relationship that may develop between defense contractors and government forces, where both sides receive what they are perceivably looking for: a successful military engagement for war planners and financial profit for those manning the corporate boardrooms. It can be viewed as a “war for profit” theory.

The idea of war for profit is nothing new in the realm of human history and can be traced back centuries earlier where arms races and the power of navy ships ruled an empire’s reach. The arms race between the European powers of France, Spain and Britain could arguably be a primal version of today’s modern so-called military-industrial complex.  The idea was that a country must build up and maintain a ready military - the largest in the world at that - to remain a world power.  Centuries ago, such a military was necessitated to protect aggression from neighboring countries.  These days, an invasion of the American homeland may seem ridiculous and contrary to the building of aglobal community founded in trust and respect. Others might argue differently.
In any case, the theory of a mutually beneficial relationship may not appear to be so far-fetched. It is no secret that the defense industry profits most when a nation commits to a lengthy war overseas. As any military will spare no expense for victory, it only makes sense to tap the resources of the defense industry to accomplish the mission. A sort of pseudo-world dominance through the basic form of imperialism can be seen to be just as important to a military force as is protecting one's homeland.  The bottom line: war is good business for those invested in it - manufacturing, production, servicing, etc..  To the war-minded industry, a wartime economy is just as profitable as a solid growing one, where shells and ammunition take precedence over the production of peacetime light bulbs or pencils. One need only to peruse the list of manufacturers participating in production during the Second World War to see just how a wartime economy can alter a single factory.
The phrase Military-Industrial Complex was first utilized in an American report at the turn of the 20th Century. “Military-Industrial Complex” was later immortalized by outgoing United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower in his January 17, 1961 farewell address to the nation. In his speech, he cites the Military-Industrial Complex as a warning to the American people – to not let this establishment begin to dictate America’s actions at home or abroad. The original usage appeared in the form of Military-Industrial Congressional Complex but later removed.
If you do believe in the Military-Industrial Complex, the sheer significance of such a relationship between our government and business is overwhelming.

Removing God and Prayer in Public Schools Has Led to America's Demise and the path to Socialism


America has plummeted from righteous living, prosperity and success in the last quarter century.


America’s moral decline rapidly accelerated following one event – the U.S. Supreme Court’s removal of prayer from our nation’s schools. On June 25, l962, 39 million students were forbidden to do what they and their predecessors had been doing since the founding of our nation – publicly calling upon the name of the Lord at the beginning of each school day.

The New York school children which prompted the Engel vs. Vitale ruling had simply prayed: “Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee and beg Thy blessing over us, our parents, our teachers and our nation.”

America has experienced radical decline in each of the four areas which the children’s prayer touched upon: youth, family, education, national life. Minor recovery has occurred only since 1980 when the election of President Reagan brought forth a renewed emphasis on “traditional” values.

The removal of prayer from our schools was a violation of the third commandment which commands us “not to take the name of the Lord in vain.” By the judicial act of forbidding invocation, the Court audaciously elevated a secularized system of education beyond the authority, reach and blessing of God Himself. Worse than taking the Lord’s sacred name in vain is treating it with contempt, denying it rightful place and stripping it from public use and even from the lips of children. Jesus’ own expressed desire, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them” was also violated by these judges, many of whom were raised in Christian homes.

But there was actually a gross violation of the third commandment by the U.S. Supreme Court a year earlier. A ruling in 1961, I believe, paved the way for stripping the Lord’s name from our children’s lips. In Torcaso vs. Watkins, the court overruled a provision of the Maryland Constitution which made “a declaration of belief in the existence of God” mandatory for holding public office.

Roy R. Torcaso, a Maryland resident and an avowed atheist, was refused a notary public commission when he would not subscribe to the required oath. His case was brought before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court ruled to sanction atheism and overruled the Maryland Constitution.

Rev. T. Robert Ingram records columnist Felix Morley’s shrewd observations on this 1961 ruling in his study, The World Under God’s Law. Mr. Morley, writing in the Nation’s Business September 1961, pointed out “the absurdity of having an official administer to others oaths in the sanctity of which he does not himself believe.”

The effect of this ruling is not just to eat away at the sacredness of the name of God, but to eliminate the sacredness and thereby the substance of the oath itself. With solemn oaths and binding contracts between individuals removed, the state eventually sits where God ought, and only the state’s cause is held valid. There is no longer an absolute and just legal basis for judging “between a man and his brother,” much less a man and his neighbor (Deuteronomy 1:16, 17). All affairs of life become subject to state, rather than individual control.

Rev. Ingram documents and points out that “a broad, organized attack reaching into high places is under way to remove the third commandment from legal standing in the United States and throughout the world.” He points out that, “the World Court, for example, presumably the new fountain of justice, or a prototype of the socialist dream of world government, has no provision for’taking the name of God’ – no oath.” The Socialist agenda of world domination makes no place for solemn “swearing” between individuals.

Jesus’ teaching on oath-taking recorded in Matthew 5:33-37, while often misinterpreted, is actually a strong affirmation of the third commandment and a clear warning that “the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain” (Exodus 20:7).

Besides forbidding perjury, (calling God to witness a lie) and false swearing, this passage also forbids all rash and unnecessary swearing, and especially warns against promissory oaths – that require a performance. Our “Yes” should be “Yes,” and our “No” should mean “No.” If understood, our word uttered in integrity should of itself be a sufficient and proper bond.

The “evangelical prophet,” Oswald Chambers (1874 – 1917), saw that the empty promises made by so many Christians actually result in great “spiritual leakage.” He admonished his followers: “Always beware of vowing, it is a risky thing. If you promise to do a thing and don’t do it, it means the weakening of your moral nature. We are all so glib in the way we promise and don’t perform and never realize that it is sapping our moral energy.“

Think then, what happens to a nation rife with perjury, broken marriage covenants, unforgiveness, cults with demonic covenants, extortion, bribery, libel, slander, profanity, hypocrisy, idle talk, and lawsuits initiated solely for revenge and personal gain. We are living witnesses that truly “the Lord does not hold such a nation guiltless.”

Regardless of how the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled, we must each, as Oswald Chambers declared, realize that “God’s laws are not watered down to suit anyone; if God did that He would cease to be God. The moral law never alters for the noblest or the weakest; it remains abidingly and eternally the same.”

After more than 40 years of severe moral decline is it not time to repent, reverence the name of the Lord, reinstitute and keep the third commandment?
